Common Sense Leadership

Our children’s education must be a trustee’s highest priority.

Katherine Chan Goodwin is ready to put the emphasis back on education rather than distraction. Our Board of Trustees has significant challenges to face in the next several years and we must place our emphasis on working together to improve education for ALL our students.

Katherine has witnessed the damage to achievement and relationships the pandemic has inflicted on our students, families, and educators. Her combination of skills, experience, and connections throughout Plano ISD and community make her uniquely qualified to build on those relationships, collaborate and refocus attention on the needs of our students and educators.

I learned the value of education from my father.  When he came to this country, he could barely speak English.  With hard work and perseverance, he earned a Master’s degree, and Ph.D., and went on to do, and lead research for the USDA for almost 40 years.  Education was the key to his success – essential to our family’s American dream.

Katherine Chan Goodwin is a long-time resident of Plano, a successful businessperson, community volunteer and longtime leader in Plano ISD PTAs. Professionally, Katherine currently consults and speaks on change management for employers and other organizations. Previously, she founded and served as CEO of a commercial real estate company for 24 years, after a long career at EDS in human resources. In preparation for the challenges a Trustee must face, and bridges she must build, Katherine has completed a Master’s program in Conflict Resolution.

She was also a member of the Plano ISD Diversity Advisory Committee and Plano ISD Council of PTAs Antiracism Committee.

A member of Leadership Plano Class 37, Katherine is on the Board of Directors of both the ArtCentre of Plano and the Plano West Rotary Club and serves as Treasurer for both organizations. Katherine is a Rotary International Paul Harris Fellow, and was honored with the Rotary International, District 5810 “Service Above Self” Award. She currently serves on the Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zones 2 and 3 Boards.

Katherine and her husband Thomas moved to Plano as newlyweds 33 years ago. Their two adult children, Chloe and Ben, are graduates of Plano Senior High School.
